Understand the version before you start
Rabbit is a possession game, but not every version transfers possession in the same way. Parful’s published Rabbit rules, for example, describe an outright winner taking the Rabbit directly from its holder. TeeLab instead uses a release-then-capture sequence.
- The Rabbit starts free. An outright winner captures it.
- If the current holder wins again, possession stays with them.
- If another player or team wins, the Rabbit becomes free. That winner does not capture it on the same hole.
- Once free, a later outright winner can capture it.
The holder at the end of the selected segment earns its result. Capturing it earlier is not itself a game-point award.
A six-hole team chase
Alice and Bob are Red; Chris and Dana are Blue. They use no allowances, a game unit of 1 and one segment covering these six selected holes. Each team compares its lower score on the hole.
| Hole | Alice / Bob | Chris / Dana | Rabbit after the hole |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 3 / 5 | 4 / 4 | Red captures |
| 2 | 5 / 3 | 4 / 5 | Red holds |
| 3 | 4 / 3 | 3 / 5 | Red holds: team lows tie |
| 4 | 4 / 5 | 3 / 3 | Free: Blue releases it |
| 5 | 3 / 5 | 3 / 4 | Still free: team lows tie |
| 6 | 5 / 4 | 3 / 3 | Blue captures and wins segment |
Bob protects Red’s possession on hole 2 even though Alice originally captured it. On hole 3, Bob and Chris tie across teams, so Red keeps it. On hole 4, Chris and Dana both have 3, but those scores belong to the same team: Blue’s low score beats Red’s 4 and releases the Rabbit. Their tied scores do not cancel their team’s win.
Segment game-point changes: Alice −1, Bob −1, Chris +1, Dana +1.
Why the team tie rule matters
In individual Rabbit, the hole needs one unique lowest player. A tie for lowest leaves possession unchanged. In team Rabbit, the comparison is between the two teams’ lowest scores. Two teammates sharing the low score can still beat the opposing team.
A tie between team lows never changes possession: the holder keeps it, or it stays free if nobody holds it. In the example, Blue does not need one of its players to post a worse score on hole 4. Two matching 3s are already enough for the team to win that hole.
If the example ended immediately after hole 4, the Rabbit would be free and everyone’s segment change would be zero. TeeLab does not award the segment to the player who released it or to its previous holder.
One segment or separate nines
The default is one Rabbit for all selected holes. You can instead use independent front-nine and back-nine segments: holes 1–9 belong to the front and 10–18 to the back, even when the round starts on hole 10. Each segment starts with a free Rabbit; possession does not transfer between them.
In individual play, a segment winner receives one configured game unit from every other participant. With three players and unit 1, the holder gains 2 and each opponent loses 1. With four players in teams, each member of the holding team gains one unit and each opponent loses one, as in the example.
Set up the chase in TeeLab
- Individual mode supports 2–100 participants. Team mode requires exactly four players in two fixed teams of two.
- Choose all holes or a selected set, then one segment or separate nines.
- Leave allowances off or set each player’s par-3, par-4 and par-5 allowance to 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5 or 2. Comparisons use strokes minus that allowance.
- Record every participant’s score. A missing score keeps that hole—and later state changes—pending.
These optional allowances are organizer-selected settings, not automatically calculated official handicaps. Review the settings together before play. For a format that awards every outright low hole instead of tracking possession, see Skins.
These games can run in personal rounds without club credits. Optional club credits are internal numerical records with no monetary value, not purchases, cash or redeemable rewards. Their use requires platform-granted advanced club eligibility, president activation and an event consisting entirely of that club’s members. Read the terms.
